I used to avoid getting behind old people in the supermarket checkout queue because they can be slow. But now I make a point of getting in line close to them so I can start a conversation while we’re waiting. It can be about strawberries being back in season, or the weather having turned cold, whatever. They’re always happy to talk and sharing this little moment with them makes me feel good too.
